  1. Excellent contrast between the magic in the eyes of the older boy and the intensity of the old man. The smoke appears as a living entity, and the relationship it has with the boys is only to be imagined. Is the old man upset with them? Is he looking for his own lost sense of magic? Does he know something we don’t? Or, is He the smoke, and not really there, but looking in from another dimension?
